Winnie the Star Patient
One morning Winnie the border collie suddenly didn’t want to get out of bed, go for his usual walk, or even more surprising, eat his breakfast. After being referred to us after visiting his regular vet, Greencross Vets Nedlands, we ran radiographs where some concerning changes were seen. To narrow down the problem, further testing was required, including blood tests and an abdominal ultrasound.
Winnie was suffering from “septic peritonitis”, which is bacteria, fluid and inflammation in the abdomen as a result of perforation, causing a leak from his intestines. This required urgent surgical repair in order to save Winnie’s life. He spent several days recovering in hospital while abdominal drains ensured there were no more free fluid or bacteria.
Winnie was a star patient, eating every time his mum came to visit. Once his drains were removed, he was able to continue his recovery from home.
These photos are from one-month post-surgery. Our whole team, including nurses, administration, managers, vets and most importantly, Winnie and his family are all smiles.
