Dr Carole Comerford was heavily involved with horses growing up and was determined to continue working with them. Becoming a vet offered that opportunity however, little did she know her passion would change following vet school as she felt the pull of small animal work.
After graduating from Sydney University, Carole went to the UK and worked in a mixed animal practice before moving to a small animal practice. After 7 years Carole returned to Australia where she initially worked in a mixed animal practice again. “I wanted to stay in the country and luckily my boss was more of a large animal vet so I was able to focus on the small animal cases.” Carole then moved to a coastal town to work at a small animal hospital then after 8 years transferred to Western Australia with her family.
“I initially worked for a small animal hospital in WA and during this period Perth Vet Emergency moved into the building we were located in. That was my introduction to emergency work and the rest as you say is history!”
Dr Comerford has a passion for client communication, emergency surgery and excellent patient care. She commends The Team for making PVE a great place to work. “Being able to initially see from the outside how close knit the team was a large reason I wanted in with this company. I also enjoy being able to provide quality veterinary care for critical as well as not so critically ill animals.”
Carole is currently studying for Membership in the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in the chapter of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. When she has time beyond her work and studies, Carole enjoys spending time with her 3 boys and renovating their home.
Carole’s family share their home with 2 four-legged friends. Steel is an ex-racing Greyhound who loves to chill on the sofa and Bam Bam is a smoochy Staffy “who would jump into your skin if she could.”
