Perth Vet Emergency Achieves Gold Standard In Cat Friendly Clinic Care: A Triumph for Feline Care

At Perth Vet Emergency (PVE), we understand that taking your cat to the vet can be a stressful experience. Many cats may become anxious and fearful in unfamiliar environments, particularly when they encounter dogs or loud noises. Traditional veterinary emergency clinics, which cater to both cats and dogs, can inadvertently exacerbate this stress, making emergency care challenging for both cats and their owners. Recognising this problem, we have made it our mission to create a welcoming and tranquil environment tailored specifically to the needs of our feline patients.

Creating a Cat-Friendly Environment

One of the standout features of our Gold Standard accreditation is our cat-only waiting area. Understanding that visits to the vet can be stressful for cats, we have dedicated a separate space exclusively for them. This area is tucked away from our main entrance and waiting area to prevent visual contact between cats and dogs, ensuring a calm and serene environment for our feline friends and their families.

Consulting Rooms That Cats Will Love

In addition to our cat-only waiting area, we have consulting rooms primarily used for feline consultations. Thess dedicated spaces minimise stress for our cat patients and allow our veterinarians to provide cat-friendly interactions. Allowing ample time for thorough examinations and addressing any concerns cat owners may have.

Comprehensive Hospitalisation Facilities

PVE has established a quiet, calm cat-only hospitalisation ward, located in a separate wing to our canine patients. This ward is designed to meet the highest standards, ensuring that our feline patients receive the best possible care. Features include:

  • Secure and Hygienic Cages: Our hospital cages are constructed of non-permeable material, ensuring they are escape-proof and easily cleaned. Each cage provides comfortable bedding, elevated platforms and hides, a litter tray, toys (when possible) – a place for our patients to curl up and rest.
  • Facilities for Long-Term Care: We provide 24/7 hospital care for all feline patients, with a dedicated team of cat loving Veterinarians and Nurses providing around the clock care.
  • Feline ICU: For patients requiring continual monitoring and treatment, we have a custom designed dedicated feline intensive care unit.
  • Isolation Area: For cats with contagious diseases, we have a separate, contained isolation area with clear signage and strict protocols to prevent cross contamination.

Advanced Medical Equipment and Expertise

Our clinic is equipped with the latest medical technology to ensure comprehensive care for our feline patients. This includes:

  • Anaesthesia and Surgery: We have specialised equipment for feline anaesthesia and surgery, including pulse oximetry, blood pressure monitors, and anaesthetic ventilation suitable for even the smallest of cats.
  • Diagnostic Imaging: We offer high-resolution radiography and ultrasound facilities to accurately diagnose and treat various conditions.
  • Laboratory Services: Our in-house lab can measure blood electrolytes, urea, creatinine, and more, providing rapid and accurate test results.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Achieving the Gold Standard is just the beginning. At PVE, we are committed to maintaining and exceeding these high standards. We conduct regular team training, follow stringent cleaning protocols, and continuously update our facilities to ensure we provide the best possible care for our feline patients. We invite all cat owners to experience the exceptional care and dedication at Perth Vet Emergency. Our team is here to ensure your feline companions receive the highest level of care in a stress-free and welcoming environment.

A Milestone of Joy and Gratitude

The team at PVE is thrilled to announce that their Cannington hospital has been awarded GOLD ISFM accreditation!

For those who have been on this journey with them, you know how long they have been waiting for this day. It is a milestone that many have held close to their hearts for a long time.

The team at PVE is filled with cat-loving individuals who are overjoyed to see their work acknowledged in this way.

Special thanks and hugs of gratitude go to our wonderful team members – Laura Fenney, Alex Holyk and Dr. Stephanie Pattison, who championed this achievement. The effort required to reach this accreditation is no mean feat, and their dedication is deeply appreciated.

A big thank you also goes out to our wider team across the Cannington and Yokine hospitals for living up to these standards even before the official certification was achieved. We know it’s not always easy, but we are so proud of the way you all consistently provide the best possible care to our feline patients!
